Not So Fast: Manny Ramirez Thought His First Major League Hit Was a Homer … It Was Not

Funny and Happy, Homers

Before his days in Boston, Manny was being Manny in the midwest – specifically, Cleveland, Ohio. Take, for example, his first Major League hit with the Indians, back on September 3, 1993.

Let’s set the stage: After going 0-4 in his debut on the 2nd, Ramirez had himself a day in his second start. In fact, in his very first plate appearance he crushed a solo home run! Except, no! He didn’t! He just didn’t realize it bounced first. Check it out:

So embarrassing, amiright?!

Well, to make up for that little gaffe, Ramirez homered in this third at-bat of the game … and then again in his fourth at-bat! By the end of the day, he went 3-4 with a double, two homers, and three RBI. I’m guessing his teammates didn’t get to make fun of him quite as much as they wanted …
