Picked off First? No problem! Just Magic Slide Your Way into Second Base!

Incredible Plays

Over the past year and a half (or so), the art of base stealing has received a renewed interest. How do I know? Well, the term “magic slide” has completely embedded itself within the fabric of our collective baseball vocabulary.

And last night, Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts put one of those magic slides on display:

Despite being easily picked-off of first base, Bogaerts pushes onwards towards second. The ball beats him there by quite a bit, but a nifty contortion of the body allowed him to slide in safely. That was a perfectly executed swim move magic slide.

That was his sixth steal of the season.

But although that was a pretty great slide … it wasn’t even the best one from yesterday:

Yeah … that’s definitely something.
